07 / Frequently Asked

The
basics
explained.

A short tour through what insulation does and how to think about it — before we get on the phone.

What is insulation and how does it work? +
Insulation reduces the rate at which heat flows into or out of your home, helping maintain a more consistent indoor temperature year-round. Bulk insulation traps still air pockets to slow heat flow. Proper installation — without gaps or compression — is essential for optimal performance.
Where should I insulate? +
To get the most benefit, insulate the ceiling, walls and underfloor — these are the main areas where heat is lost or gained. Ceiling insulation is particularly important. Retrofits can enhance efficiency without major disruption.
What are R-values? +
R-values measure the effectiveness of insulation at resisting heat flow. The higher the R-value, the better the material's ability to prevent heat passing through. Selection depends on climate, the area being insulated, and energy efficiency goals.
How long will the installation take? +
Anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days depending on home size, insulation type, and whether it's a new build or retrofit. Specific timelines require a professional assessment — ask us when we visit.
Could I install it myself? +
DIY is possible but labour-intensive and difficult without experience. Poor installation reduces the effectiveness of the insulation significantly — professional installation ensures the rated R-value performance.
